It didn’t take The Times headline on Saturday to tell us that literacy is of key importance in nurseries and other Early Years settings.

I attended a lunch the day before where the Rt. Hon Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Education, was giving a rather ‘state of the nation’ address. School readiness is clearly central to his plan for raising the bar in education and thereby our ability as a nation in the global economy to compete for the next generation’s jobs.

However, perhaps it was a greater surprise that The Times focus on the need for literacy was leveled not at the children, but at the care workers in this sector, following the findings of the Nutbrown review.

Either way, it is evident that nurseries and pre-schools need to ensure that they are equipped to deliver literacy, which essentially means:

- Synthetic phonics resources for their children
- Great training solutions for their staff

No surprise then that some of the most popular seminars in our EYFS Professionals Seminar Programme are around literacy and professional development.

The point is, whether you are an Early Years bookseller or publisher, or delivering training into Early Years settings, the Nursery Show 2012 (27-28 April) is your opportunity to make a huge impact at exactly the right time and capture a highly focused and relevant audience of nursery, pre-school and school leaders in the South East and South West.

If you are not yet participating at the Nursery Show and would like to find out about stand prices, please contact us on 01932 853 323 or at kate.currie@evisstar.com.

Kind regards,

Call us childlike (no bad thing), but we at the Nursery Show in Bournemouth are pretty excited! With just four weeks to go the fantastic furniture and equipment supplier Community Playthings has come in with a host of great offers for your Early Years setting. Our partnership with Community Playthings means that you will be able to take away free training resources for your setting and great give-aways (that you get to make yourself) as well as get the full update on all their new products.

Register for the Nursery Show at www.nurseryshow.co.uk in advance to qualify for free entry and we will also donate £1 for every visitor at the show to the Dorset based children’s hospice Julia’s House.”

Free Truck

Show your children what you made for them on your day out at the Bournemouth Nursery Show. The Community Playthings staff will help you become one of Santa’s Elves as you assemble a solid wooden truck. Practitioners from the first 100 settings that arrive on the Community Playthingsstand each day will be the lucky ones who will take home a truck worth over £20.00 (one truck per setting).

Free Training resource:

Providing on-going training to the staff in your centre can be quite a challenge. There is help at The Nursery Show . A complete training package with a booklet, CD Powerpoint presentation and trainers notes on the value of open-ended play will be available AT NO COST for staff with leadership position who come to the Community Playthings stand D4.

New items:

Curved room-dividing panels with golden bamboo provide the Cosy spaces your children have been looking for. Because they also need exercise, the new Nursery Gym gives scope for that in the context of an indoor structure that ends up being used for role play and communication as well. If you are tight on space but still want to make displays to interest the older children, the new tray units with display above are a perfect answer. All of these products and more will be on display on the Community Playthingsstand D4 at The Nursery Show.

REGISTER TODAY to see Community Playthings and a range of other industry leading suppliers at The Nursery Show.

In April 2012, BH Live, the leisure and cultural trust which manages and operates the Bournemouth International Centre, will be welcoming the all-new Nursery Show (27-28 April 2012) and exhibition attracting hundreds of Early Years professionals and providers to the South Coast.

Organisers for the Nursery Show (www.nurseryshow.co.uk), which is now under new management Evisstar, are aiming to generate higher than ever attendances encouraging professionals and practitioners from state and independent schools and academies with Early Years settings alongside the nurseries and child minders for this ‘free to register’ event.

Nursery Show Organiser, Richard Joslin said; “The South of England is home to literally thousands of Early Years settings, all of which are constantly looking for new, inspiring and effective ideas, resources and solutions to deliver an ever-improving level of childcare, parental engagement and school readiness. The all-new Nursery Show, which will showcase hundreds of products and services, provides Early Years professionals with the opportunity view, test and play with some of the finest and fun learning resources available.”

Joslin went on to say “We are particularly proud of our brand new Early Years Foundation Stage Professionals Seminar Programme, which features the likes of the Department for Education and Ofsted and is a key element of this year’s Nursery Show. Topics will cover policy in practice, nutrition, ICT, synthetic phonics and literacy, outdoor play, best practice, parental engagement, professional development, employment law and more.”

As another first, the Nursery Show organisers are donating £1 to Dorset children’s hospice Julia’s House for every Early Years professional that attends the event this year.

Steve Piper, BH Live Head of Venues said; “The all-new Nursery Show promises to be a very bright, colourful and interactive event and is growing in size year on year. We love opening our doors to the Early Years professionals and exhibitors as they, due to the very nature of their work, bring a vibrant energy to the Centre, which is very contagious. Alongside the exhibitors, many of the delegates may also choose to stay on in the town during and after the event significantly contributing to the local economy through business tourism.”

The Nursery Show, the South of England’s only exhibition for Early Years care and education, is delighted to announce its new alliance with Dorset children’s charity, Julia’s House. The Nursery Show exhibition and conference, which focuses on the products and services available for Early Years settings in private, independent and state facilities, will be donating £1 for every individual who attends the event at the BIC Bournemouth in April 27-28th. Event organiser, Richard Joslin, said, “From the earliest days when the team took over the Nursery Show, it was always important that we could use the exhibition to bring an immediate benefit to the local community. I am therefore pleased to announce our relationship with Julia’s House, a charity that provides essential care and support for children with life-limiting illnesses, and their families. It costs visitors nothing for Early Years professionals and educators to attend the Nursery Show if you register in advance, so this donation is coming directly from us, the organisers.”

Julia’s House – www.juliashouse.org – looks after around 90 life-limited children all over Dorset. They visit the hospice and are also cared for in their own homes. The charity offers much-needed respite for parents who are looking after very sick children 24 hours a day. It gives them time out with their partners, their other children or simply a chance to catch up with some day-to-day tasks. Julia’s House this year needs to raise £2.7 million to provide this vital service to the families of very poorly children. As Joslin says, “Only 10% of the funding for Julia’s House comes from the Government, and in an environment where people are being careful with their spending, I am glad The Nursery Show is able to help support such a worthy cause.”
